Recycling Process
What is the recycling process once your shipment reaches Phoneraiser?
Once your shipment of cell phones/PDAs and inkjet cartridges are received at Phoneraiser, the box is opened and the contents are removed, recorded and sorted. Cell phones/PDAs that do not power up travel down one path (are handled in one manner) and those that do have working capability travel down another (are handled in a separate manner.)
If a cell phone/PDA does not work when it reaches Phoneraiser, it can be sold for parts, as the working parts can be placed in cell phones/PDAs that need repair work. If the cell phone is older and/or the repair parts are not in high demand, that phone is shipped to a local ISO 1400 Certified Plant where the toxic chemicals and precious metals are safely removed. The remaining parts of the non-working phone are smelted according to USDA Standards.
Since each cell phone/PDA contains eight toxic elements, it is imperative that we teach society that cell phones/PDAs must be recycled – working or not! Most households today have between three to five cell phones in drawers or toy boxes. Those phones will probably remain there until the owners move or die. When that happens, somebody is going to be cleaning out drawers fast. They probably won’t be thinking, “I need to get this to a recycling center.” So proactively, we need to teach people to recycle cell phones. Your organization can be the benefactor of being a part of that education process! You can earn significant amounts of funding by helping to gather and recycle cell phones/PDAs!
If a cell phone/PDA is working when it reaches Phoneraiser, it is tested, graded and batched by model number. Phoneraiser pays for over 1,000 different cell phone/PDA models. The inside of the phone remains intact but the outside can be re-tooled (new plastic case or perhaps an antennae applied) and then that phone can be sold in the United States as a Pre-Paid phone.
Many cell phones contain a SIM card, which is where your data is stored. All SIM cards are removed once we receive your shipment here at Phoneraiser but as an added precaution, you should always remove your SIM card before forwarding your phone to anyone. Phones that do not contain SIM cards are flash stripped of their memory when sold.
When the cell phone/PDA contains older technology, after it is re-tooled, it is often sold in other countries, not third world countries, but countries where cell phone technology is being developing. Because there are often different electric currents in different markets, cell phone chargers do not need to be sent in with the phones.
Inkjet cartridges also have the opportunity to travel down two paths once they reach the Phoneraiser back room. While almost all inkjet cartridges, palm size or smaller, can be recycled (plastic smelted appropriately) only those that contain a gold chip which controls the ink flow can actually be re-used or refilled. Since it takes two ounces of oil to manufacture an inkjet cartridge, it is imperative “re-useable” or not, that we teach society that all inkjet cartridges need to be sent in to be recycled!
Again your organization can earn significant amounts of funding by gathering and recycling all of the cell phones/PDAs and ink jet cartridges you can secure! Go Green! Get Paid to Recycle with Phoneraiser!
