school fundraisersWhether you’re in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, or private school, Phoneraiser has great fundraising ideas to help with your fundraising goals!

  • Determine how the funds will be used
    • Computers
    • Playground equipment
    • Recycling equipment
    • School trip or event
    • New uniforms
  • Be sure to include environmental statistics in all communications
    • One cell phone can contaminate 35,000 gallons of water (enough to provide water for 153 people for one year)
    • Cell phones and their batteries contain eight toxic substances, including arsenic, lead and mercury
    • In the US alone, we already retired more than 500 million cell phones
    • Each month, an additional ten million cell phones are retired
    • Almost all inkjet cartridges can be recycled
  • Determine how much money needs to be raised
    • The average working flip phone will generate between $2.00 and $3.00
    • The average working PDA’s average between $10.00 and $12.00
    • Palm-sized ink jet cartridges average $.25 – $.50
  • Place collection box in a supervised area
  • Put up outdoor signage asking people to donate their used cell phones
  • Gather a small group of people to help you and give them specific tasks
    • Letter to the parents announcing the program
      • Ask parents to Facebook all relatives and friends who may know the child
      • Set deadline date to bring phones for initial drive – plan for a four-week window
      • Send monthly reminders via email to the parents
    • Contact Local Businesses
      • Ask them to set up collection boxes in their stores for your school fundraiser
      • Or donate their used phones to your school
    • If you have high school students who come to your elementary school (i.e. classroom readers/sports), have them ask the children to bring the phones
    • Use cell phone collection as means of entry to an event (i.e. bring a cell phone to Fall Festival to get in free)
    • Have a collection/shipping lead who:
      • Secures mailing labels and sufficient shipping box
      • Is sure to tape boxes securely for safe shipping
      • Reviews the Smart Shipping segment on the website
      • Ship when you have collected at least 20 cell phones/PDA’s and inkjet cartridges
  • Create a Grade Level Competition – offer an Ice Cream or Pizza party for that class or grade level that collects the most phones.

NOTE: The average household has 3-5 used cell phones in drawers. Be sure to ask your neighbors on both sides to triple your household’s contribution to the recycling/fundraising effort!
