Determine how you want to use the money- Determine how much money you want to raise

- PDA’s average $10 each
- Inkjet cartridges average $0.50 each
- Facebook all of your friends and family and tell them why you are trying to raise money. Ask them to ask their friends and family as well
- Be sure to include environmental statistics in all communications
- One cell phone can contaminate 35,000 gallons of water (enough to provide water for 153 people for one year)
- Cell phones and their batteries contain eight toxic substances, including arsenic, lead and mercury
- We’ve already retired more than 500 million cell phones alone
- Each month, an additional ten million cell phones are retired
- Almost all inkjet cartridges can be recycled
- Do a silly video and post it on YouTube, post it on your social profiles, and email your friends and family about the reason you are trying to raise money
- Where applicable…
- Place collection boxes with pictures of your cause in local businesses, such as grocery stores, banks, libraries, coffee shops, places where people are repeat visitors
- Go to places that have lost and founds (churches, schools, hotels, rental car places, taxi cab companies, public transportation, movie theaters, community centers, amusement parks, libraries)
- Go to places that have employees who are out in the field, such as landscaping companies, construction companies, roofing companies, service companies (i.e. delivery services, electricians, plumbers, a/c repair, utility companies like ONCOR, TU Electric, ATT, city office because they have a variety of departments like police, fire, maintenance, code enforcement, road crews, etc.)
- Put an article in your local newspaper, community enewsletters/correspondence about your fundraiser
- To ship:
- Secure mailing labels and sufficient shipping boxes
- Be sure to tape boxes securely for safe shipping
- Review the Smart Shipping segment on the website
- Ship when you have collected at least 20 cell phones/PDA’s and inkjet cartridges
NOTE: The average household has 3-5 used cell phones in drawers. Be sure to ask your neighbors on both sides to triple your household’s contribution to the recycling/fundraising effort!
